Competency 13

In this learning guide, you will learn about unregulated care techniques. While these techniques are not regulated, it does not make them any less important: They must be performed with skill and diligence. . This guide is designed to help you develop your skills and to adapt your care to a person’s clinical reality. In this competency, you will learn how to: . • Adapt your care to the needs of the individual (e.g. pre- or postoperative care); . • Perform unregulated activities correctly such as collecting urine samples and applying a protective dry dressing; . • Use restraints when appropriate and necessary; . • Follow hygiene, asepsis, health and safety measures and precautions; . • Effectively communicate your observations to the team. . You have been able to reflect on your role as a PCA or HSSA since the beginning of your training. Keep in mind that all the knowledge you have acquired so far is interrelated. It will allow you to adequately accompany the people who will be entrusted to you according to their condition and needs, regardless of their living arrangements (private home, alternative living environment or a care facility)..
